Seeded Sculpture Workshop

In the final workshop organized as part of Re*Mind Art Research, we met with 1st-grade students from İstiklal Primary School. In the Seeded Sculpture Workshop, designed by Derin Uludağ, we created sculptures using Bozcaada’s natural clay and embedded plant seeds inside them.

Although our Zero Gathering event officially ended with the full moon on October 17, this movement will continue to live on through the seeded sculptures created by the children. At the end of the workshop, we exhibited the sculptures and then placed them throughout the streets of Bozcaada.

This process, which began with the equinox on September 23, will come to life again months later when the seeds sprout. These sculptures, shaped by the hands of children, will continue to grow Zero Movement’s vision of shaping the future of the island.

Seeded Sculpture Workshop Process

Our workshop consisted of four main stages, each designed to strengthen the connection with nature while fostering creativity:

1. Introduction

Participants got to know the seeds, the clay, and each other. We began by sharing information about the materials and the purpose of the workshop. Depending on the location, we also organized a seed-collecting walk together.

2. Creation

We discussed the role of seeds in nature, the life cycle of plants, and Bozcaada’s geographical features, drawing inspiration from these elements. Then, participants shaped the clay, embedded seeds inside, and brought their sculptures to life.

3. Placement

The sculptures were carefully placed in locations selected based on the type of seeds they contained, ensuring they had the best conditions for growth and germination. During this phase, we also documented the process by photographing the sculptures.

4. Mapping

Each sculpture was marked on a map along with the type of seeds it contained. This allowed us to create a record and track the growth and development of the seeds over time.
