As part of Zero Gathering, three events were organized to raise awareness about plastic waste recycling and provide practical solutions. These sessions featured Niyazi Doğan Öncü, the founder of P-Lab, a plastic recycling workshop in Istanbul, and Can Görsev, the owner of Coffee Shelter in Bozcaada, who shared their experiences and insights on plastic waste transformation and its practical applications.
The discussion session focused on highlighting the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste and increasing awareness of plastic recycling projects and their feasibility. Topics included waste separation, recycling machinery, and the effectiveness of these technologies at both individual and societal levels. Niyazi Doğan Öncü provided insights into P-Lab’s projects, sharing examples of recycling applications, while Can Görsev explained how he integrates plastic waste processing at his coffee shop, emphasizing the importance of individual actions in driving environmental impact.
As part of the event, participants watched a film screening showcasing the story of plastic waste recycling. The film, produced by Precious Plastic, explored the recycling process, the challenges faced, and how plastic waste can be transformed into reusable products. The screening aimed to enhance transparency in plastic recycling and provide a step-by-step understanding of the transformation journey.
During the demonstration session, participants were introduced to plastic recycling machines, learning how they operate and how the final recycled products can be repurposed. The demonstration offered a hands-on look at the process, from raw plastic waste to finished products, showcasing real-world applications of recycling technologies.
These events within Zero Gathering successfully raised awareness of plastic recycling, demonstrating the critical role of both individual and collective efforts in addressing plastic waste issues.
